RN to BSN

Core Curriculum and Nurising Major Prerequisites

• All courses in the general education and nursing major prerequisite sections must be completed with a C or better.
• All required science courses must be “For Science Majors.”
• All the prerequisite general education courses may be taken at most community colleges or accredited universities, except PSYC 3301  which must be taken at UT Permian Basin. (This course is offered online)

RN to BSN Degree Option

Required RN-BSN Nursing Courses will be delivered by one of two options, Online or Campus Based. The student may choose either option, but not both. The content of the courses will be the same.

Online Option

The online option will be conducted totally online except for required clinical practicums held in the student’s local community, which will be arranged according to written agreements between the affiliating agency and UT Permian Basin.

Campus – Based Option

Students choosing the campus-based option will meet face-to-face one weekend per month, Friday and Saturday, on the UT Permian Basin campus or in pre-approved clinical settings, which require written agreements between the affiliating agency and UT Permian Basin. Other required activities will be web-enhanced or conducted through Blackboard.

Requirements for Admission to the RN-BSN Track are essentially the same as that of the generic BSN student with some variations. The essentials for the BSN are greater than and differ from the essentials for nurses educated at the associate degree and diploma levels in the skills for clinical reasoning, research, and public health, coordination of care, and leadership and management of patients with complex health care needs.

Admission Requirements for The RN-BSN Track:

1. Must hold a current RN license to practice professional nursing in Texas or other state recognized by the NCLEX-RN Council of Nursing.
2. Must be a graduate of a professional nursing program approved by the Texas State Board of Nursing, or appropriate State Board of Nursing.
3. Must be a graduate of a nationally accredited professional nursing program.
4. Must obtain successful admission to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. At the time of application to the university, students must apply to the RN-BSN nursing degree track. 
5. After admission to UT Permian Basin, the student must contact the Nursing Admission Officer for completion of the nursing degree plan.

• NURS 4311 Women’s Health and Obstetrical Nursing Clinical (9 hrs clinical/wk) sch
• NURS 4210 Pediatric Nursing (2 hrs class/wk) sch
