Engineering Admissions Requirements
Admission Requirements
All students seeking admission to an engineering program are initially placed into the Pre-Engineering program. The Pre-Engineering program is designed for freshmen or transfer students who wish to pursue an engineering degree. The program is open to those who meet both the combined and mathematics requirements listed below.

Any student, including transfer and current Pre-Engineering students, who meets the following two criteria may apply for full admission to an engineering program:
Mechanical Engineering
- have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better, and
- have completed the following program-specific courses (or their equivalent) with a GPA of 2.5 or better.
Petroleum Engineering
Prior to enrolling in any upper level engineering courses, the student must complete all of the courses listed above and submit an application for full admission to the program’s discipline coordinator. Only those students accepted into an engineering discipline will be allowed to take upper level engineering courses.
General Education Requirements (42 sch)
General Education Requirements are 42 semester credit hours as outlined in the U. T. Permian Basin Undergraduate Catalog. In meeting these requirements, students should take the courses listed in the specific engineering program description.

Language, Philosophy, and Culture (3 sch)
* UNIV courses are open to students in the Honors Program only.
Life and Physical Sciences (6 sch)
Political Science (U.S., State of Texas and Local Government) (6 sch)
Creative Arts (3 sch)
* UNIV courses are open to students in the Honors Program only.
Social and Behavioral Science (3 sch)
Component Area Option (5 sch)
